Butterfly Garden
Thanks to the support of the City of Charles Sturt and the Westside Place Makers grant program a butterfly garden will be planted with the community this winter in Alton Reserve. Around 43% of insects have disappeared from the earth in what has been dubbed the Insect Apocalypse. With many of our food sources and flowering plants relying on pollinators, keeping these insects alive is of great importance. This project will create an insect garden for the park, while re-connecting people with nature.
This project will have 3 phases:
• The planting of a butterfly-shaped garden with plants that will encourage these insects into the park.
• Community planning sessions for Butterfly gardens for specific species.
• Creating art and a ‘butterfly walk’ from Alton Reserve to Challa Gardens Primary School.
Planning sessions at the Joy of Flora Cafe on Rosetta Street in West Croydon.
